What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a powerful state of focused awareness that can be used to uncover and dissolve the root cause of many issues people suffer from everyday.

Hypnosis allows you to access all the healing resources inherent within the subconscious mind, promoting natural healing from within.  ​

Hypnosis has been sanctioned and used by the medical community since 1958 to help patients overcome chronic pain, create anesthesia, and heal psychogenic illnesses.

What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions! Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success. Hypnosis will not work if you do not want to be doing it in the first place. You have to be ready to make changes and to do the work that is necessary to feel better and to change your circumstances for which you are seeking help with.

Is Hypnosis sleep?

Definitely not!  It is not sleep. When you are sleeping we would not be able to do the work that needs to be done to help you feel better. In hypnosis we may use terms like sleep, but we really only mean go deeply relaxed and close your eye’s like you are sleeping.

How do you know when you're in hypnosis?



  • "Highway Hypnosis" is probably the most commonly cited state of naturally occurring hypnosis.

  • Being in a car and losing track of time or wondering if you passed your exit is a naturally occurring state of hypnosis.

  • Hypnotically suggested analgesia or anesthesia is perfectly natural.

  • Notice a bruise or cut on your arm, but unable to recollect when the injury may have happened.

  • What had happened in this case was that you focused on some task, which induced a naturally occurring state of trance, and you injured yourself, but because your were in hypnosis, you were able to experience analgesia (the blockage of the sensation of pain).

  • If you were to experience that same kind of injury without this state, it would indeed be very painful.

How long will it take?

In general depending the issues we will be working on, it can take as little as 4 sessions or as many as 6. The average number of sessions is 5, but some people may need more. Once you have addressed the issue(s) you have come in for, if you feel you need to brush up once in awhile, you can always schedule an independent session or two to get you feeling your best.

Can I be hypnotized?

Yes of course! You've already been hypnotized anytime you watched an enjoyable movie, or read a good book. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind that everyone has already experienced. Actually, it's such a normal state of mind that most people don't realize they are hypnotized.

All you need to do to go into a state of hypnosis when coming into Northwest Hypnosis Center is be willing and able to follow gentle instructions for reaching a state of focused awareness.

Who will hypnotize me?

Annie Alexander is a highly qualified professional. She is a Registered Hypnotherapist with the State of Washington, a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Association of Hypnotist Professionals.  She has achieved extra certification in the advanced  hypnotherapy system called 5-PATH® as well as being a 7th Path Self-Hypnosis Teacher.  Annie is also certified as a Past Life Regression Hypnotist.


With several decades of mental health expertise as a Ph.D. Psychologist and Senior Certified Addictions Counselor, she has helped thousands of people resolve their trauma, restore their relationships and successfully transition from an addictions lifestyle to sobriety. 


She is highly experienced and passionate about client care, respect, dignity and confidentiality and has supervised hundreds of mental health professionals as they developed their own careers.
